Ante las dificultades que dicho contexto genera para estos individuos, se ob…serva que en los relatos de su vivencia, la madre cumple un rol central en la aceptación, incluso de su propia identidad sexual. Igualmente, se conoce que para las familias, la 'salida del closet' de sus parientes, genera algún grado de crisis, y da inicio a procesos de adaptación. Sin embargo, observamos una falta en la literatura respecto a la experiencia particular de las madres, aun cuando tienen una función clave en la aceptación de sus hijos o hijas. Por ello, en la presente investigación se pretendió comprender la vivencia de ser madre de un hijo homosexual o una hija lesbiana. Se utilizó la investigación cualitativa, con un diseño emergente, utilizando principios de la teoría fundamentada. Se realizaron 10 entrevistas en profundidad, siendo analizadas utilizando la codificación axial. Los resultados son agrupados en dos categorías: 1.) la vivencia de la maternidad, y, 2.) la vivencia de la homosexualidad del hijo o lesbianismo de la hija.
