Leather. Zustand: Fair. No Jacket. "From the Last London Edition of J. Macloc, Esq. Much improved and enlarged in the Descriptions, and by the Introduction of a great Number of Animals which were not in the London Edition, particularly an account of the Great Sea Serpent, or the Scoliophis Atlanticus: Which was seen in the Harbour of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Embellished with Fifty-Seven Copperplate Engravings: All Executed in a Masterly Style, and Representing Near Four Hundred Animals." A highly celebrated, early-19th-century zoological encyclopedia compiled by British naturalist J. Macloc. First published around 1813 to 1815 by the prominent London printing house Dean and Munday, this massive work reflects a fascinating era when science and public curiosity began demanding comprehensive, structured overviews of the global animal kingdom. Rather than relying purely on original field observations, Macloc functioned as a curator of the era's grandest biological discoveries. He explicitly compiled and abridged his texts from the monumental works of more famous, pioneering naturalists. Book has significant age/use wear including age toning, page shadows, some foxing, inner hinge cracking, scuffs, scrapes and edge wear to leather. Lacks prelims, opening to the title page. Book.…
