White dust jacket soiled and toned; nicks, several short tears, and some bumping at edges. Blue cloth with bright gilt stamping to spine; front board has slender band of color fading at top with small ding to bottom edge. Editor Mahl's seven-line ink inscription "October 29, 1969. | To Giles, | who set my feet | in this path of | literary research in | 1955. | Mary" on front free endpaper. Page x features printed dedication to Dr. Giles E. Dawson. Interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A very good+ copy in a very good dust jacket. Book was acquired from the estate of Shakespeare scholar Dr. Giles Edwin Dawson (1903-1994) who joined the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. as a reference librarian in 1932 and, after World War II service, was the Folger's curator of books and manuscripts from 1946 until his retirement in 1967. Dr. Dawson additionally served on the Catholic University faculty from 1935 to 1972 and taught at Howard University from 1975 to 1977.
