Im Laufe der letzten Jahrzehnte wurde die Erklärung menschlichen Verhaltens jedoch vermehrt auch in naturwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen versucht. Soziobiologie, evolutionäre Psychologie, Verhaltensökologie und evolutionäre Anthropologie sind Beispiele der Fachgebiete, die sich mit dem Menschen als Produkt der Evolution befassen. Doch nicht immer stoßen evolutionäre Erklärungen menschlichen Verhaltens auf Akzeptanz innerhalb der Sozialwissenschaften, insbesondere innerhalb der Soziologie.
