Die russische Fotografin Maria Gruzdeva wollte die russische Grenze mit dieser Arbeit richtiggehend erforschen und nicht nur durchreisen. Sie hat sich mit dieser Grenzwelt intensiv auseinandergesetzt und daraus ist eine Reise durch Zeit, Geschichte, Erinnerung und Raum geworden, die 2011 begann und 2015 endete.Sie hat dabei zusätzlich zu ihrer fotografischen Arbeit ein bebildertes Tagebuch geführt, das mit der Zeit immer wichtiger und so zu einem substantiellen Teil ihrer Arbeit wurde. In diesem Tagebuch hat sie nicht nur Gespräche mit den dort lebenden Menschen festgehalten, sondern auch ihre Erinnerungen und die eigenen Erfahrungen und Gefühle. Es zeigt auch die sehr persönliche Arbeitsweise dieser jetzt in London lebenden Fotografien, was dem Leser normalerweise verborgen bleibt. Das Projekt wurde von Ideas Tap & Magnum Photos Photographic Award unterstützt.
