Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. 330, [6] pages. Illustrations. Index. Autographed copy sticker on front of DJ. Signed by Judith and Eric Denker on the Dedication page. DJ has spine crease. Judith Martin (née Perlman; born September 13, 1938[1]), better known by the pen name Miss Manners, is an American columnist, author, and etiquette authority. In 1978, Martin, as Miss Manners, began writing an advice column, which was distributed three and later six times a week by Universal Uclick and carried in more than 200 newspapers worldwide. In the column, she answers etiquette questions contributed by her readers and writes short essays on problems of manners, or clarifies the essential qualities of politeness. Martin was the recipient of a 2005 National Humanities Medal from President George W. Bush. Martin was portrayed by Broadway theater actress Jessie Mueller in The Post, Steven Spielberg's 2017 movie about the Pentagon Papers. Eric Denker was a the highly regarded Senior Lecturer at the National Gallery of Art for many years. Denker has a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, studied in Bologna and speaks Italian. Denker has long been a devoted fan of Venice. His publications include the 2003 exhibition catalogue "Whistler and His Circle in Venice" and an etiquette guide to the city, entitled "No Vulgar Hotel: The Desire and Pursuit of Venice," co-written in 2007 with his friend Judith Martin, better known as "Miss Manners." His lectures have also included "Raphael and His Circle," "Degas at the Opera," "Tintoretto Central: La Scuola Grande di San Rocco" and "In the Wake of Whistler: Prints of Venice, 1900-1940." The definitive manual for the hopeless Venetophile. Love of Venice can strike anyone, not just romantic enthusiasts. Among the toughies with serious cases were Lord Byron, Richard Wagner, Ezra Pound, and Ernest Hemingway. Symptoms include: Wishing that the movie stars in films set in Venice would move aside so that you can get a better view of the scenery; Wondering why people ask if you had good weather when you were there as if rain could dampen your love; Thinking that people who go to Tuscany or Provence must be nuts; Believing that the "Per San Marco" street sign with arrows pointing in opposite directions makes perfect sense; Consoling yourself when you leave by remembering the generations of Venetian merchants who, as they were borne away from Venice, vowed to be back as soon as they had more money. There is no cure for this affliction. This is a guide to managing it. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].
