The unit ended up in front of the Allied units and were surrounded by the German Army during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in October 1918. Written by a member of the battalion, the book is a series of memories and poems about the unit's time in France. Three of the battalion's officers received the Medal of Honor to include the commander, Lt Col Charles Whittlesey. Originally printed in 1919, this edition includes a tribute to Whittlesey who committed suicide in 1921. The book has a fold out picture of the survivors of the unit. Very good copy of the soft bound book. 138 pages.

Dark brown heavy card covers have creasing/rubbing/bumping around the edges but no heavy chipping or rips/tears of any kind. The last page has pulled away from the binding staples at the rear inside hinge, but the page itself is still firmly attached to binding. Pages are lightly toned throughout. Fold-out frontispiece is fully intact and in excellent condition. Spine is straight and smooth, with no gaps or other damage to bnding. Copyright page states "Seven Hundredth Thousand". Overall, an absolutely lovely copy of one soldier's tribute to his comrades in arms. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Private Press.
