The first is Stauffer's work from 1907, which attempted to catalogue and identify the work of all American engravers. Mantle Fielding published a supplement in 1917 based on his own original research and Stauffer's notes. This added to the 700 names and biographies provided by Stauffer. Finally, Gage published a cross-index to artists whose work had been reproduced by engravers. The original editions of Stauffer's and Fielding's work were published in extremely limited editions (350 and 220 copies, respectively). This set is essential in the study of engravings, and will be an often used reference tool in your library. VG/VG/VG: Exlibrary books.
