126 pp, small 8vo (7 1/2" H), hard cover (medium brown cloth with gold lettering on spine, red and dark brown lettering on front board, red and dark brown decoration on spine and front board) - no dust jacket. B&w frontispiece, chapter decorations. "The object of this little story is to tell the tale of the revolt of the Indians and half-breeds in 1885, under Louis Riel, with the aim of getting what the half-breeds held to be their rights in the distribution of Reserve lands by Gov e r n m e n t . The events are drawn from contemporary papers; and the facts of the struggle, so far as given here, are strictly true (though all the skirmishes are not mentioned), - with this exception, that the name of the worthy agent, Maclean, at F or t Pi tt , is changed, and his family - a numerous one - are not all spoken of. But the valour and pious courage shown by him, his wife, and daughters, are matters of history. The son of Charles Dickens was, as here stated, the Inspector of Pol ice a t F ort P itt at the time. The letters and diaries here given are all genuine. The story of the Red House and its inmates is fictitious, though founded on fact." A few small light foxing marks on a few pages, school award inscrip tio n on fre e f ront end pap er, s mall piece missing fron top edge of rear pastedown, light browning and very small foxing marks on edges of textblock, light edge wear to boards, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, small scuff on front boar d, s catte red v ery faint mark s on boa rd s .
