Erstausgabe
First English Language Edition. First impression. Octavo; red cloth hardcover, titled in gilt on spine; 466pp. Neat ownership signature to front blank (the late philosopher-bookseller Edward Gelblum, d. 2015); brief pencil annotations to bottom margin of same; two pages with some unobtrusive pencil underlining. A Very Good or better copy, lacking the dustwrapper. Quite attractive copy of Merleau-Ponty's groundbreaking work, widely credited as one of the seminal texts of French Existentialism. Originally published in French in 1945, this was the first full translation into English.
