Für eine realistische Beurteilung des Denkens von Jaspers ist es wichtig, dieses selbst wieder in den Blick zu bekommen. Entscheidend ist dabei, dass Jaspers philosophische Wahrheit nur als ungegenständliche Gewissheit des Einzelnen akzeptiert. Erzeugt werde diese durch die reine Bewegung des Denkens, während die gegenständliche Seite, also die Weisen des Denkens, nur Funktionscharakter besitzen soll. Jaspers' Philosophie weist damit eine Struktur auf, die Parallelen, neben der Negativen Theologie, vor allem im Zen-Buddhismus hat. Dies, und besonders die radikalen Folgen für die gegenständliche Erscheinung von Philosophie, wird absichtlich ausgeblendet. So bleibt aber auch das Potential Jaspers' für unsere Zeit unbeachtet. Denn er sieht Philosophie, weil sie nicht rationalwissenschaftlich fixierbar ist, nur auf die Veränderung der inneren Haltung des Einzelnen gerichtet, lässt ihre äußere Form aber weitestgehend offen. Und dieser Ansatz, der Philosophie notwendig im Zustand geistiger Bewegung sieht, könnte einen Weg weisen aus dem Dilemma heutigen Philosophierens, das zwischen falschen Verabsolutierungen und haltloser Agnostik schwankt.
