Buch
Soft cover. Zustand: As New. No Jacket. No creases; unread as-new trade paperback, although with some toning to rear wrap in an inverted "L" pattern, possibly from being shelved next to a much smaller book. Rear wrap also bears a "Mises Institute Conference Student" reduced price tag. Originally copyright 1957 by Yale University Press. The final of his four great works, "Theory and History" remains "by far the most neglected masterwork of Mises," says Professor Rothbard in his preface. "Yet it provides the philosophical backstop and elaboration of the philosophy underlying 'Human Action' . . . while "providing scintillating critiques of such fallacious alternatives as historicism, scientism, and Marxian dialectic materialism." Sections on Value; Determinism and Materialism; Epistemological Problems of History; The Course of History. 384 pp. including index. Reduced from $57.

Erstausgabe
First edition of the re-issue of this classic work, the first to feature a preface by Murray N. Rothbard. Octavo, original cloth. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Preface by Murray N. Rothbard. Theory and History discusses the theory of economics, the study of purposive human action, and with history, the record of the past actions of individuals. All actions are determined by ideas. Thoughts and ideas are "real things," Mises writes. "Although intangible and immaterial, they are factors in bringing about changes in the realm, of tangible and material things." Rather than rejecting the study of historical change as a "useless pastime," Mises considers it of the utmost practical importance. "History looks backward into the past, but the lesson it teaches concerns things to come.".
