The first edition of the collection of stories Birthday Earth was published in 1937 in Tallinn, then the collection was repeatedly republished abroad and in our time in Russia. The stories of Vasily Nikiforov-Volgin are the favorite reading of the Orthodox family. His book is truly a people's book. Nikiforov-Volgin's works are touching, warmed by the heat of the Orthodox soul, permeated with quiet light and lyricism. Vasily Akimovich Nikiforov-Volgin, a Russian writer, a talented genius, began his literary and journalistic activities in 1920 in Estonia. By the mid-1930s, he became a famous writer in the Russian diaspora. At the same time, Nikiforov-Volgin, who knew and loved Orthodox worship well, served as a psalm-reader in various Estonian churches. According to some reports, he was the teacher of little Alyosha Ridiger, the future Patriarch Alexy II. The arrival of Soviet power in Estonia in 1940 put an end to all cultural activities of the Russian emigration. The writer was forced to work at a shipbuilding plant, where he was arrested in 1941. At the beginning of the war, he was sent to Kirov (Vyatka), where he was shot for publishing books, brochures and plays of slanderous, anti-Soviet content.
