Around 150 pages are filled, with just under 100 pages or so unfilled. The recipes themselves reflect a post-war economy, with ingredients and instruction given for traditional and wholesome English dishes such as Lancashire pie, Apple Charlotte tart, toad in the hole, Christmas pudding, bread and butter pudding, malt loaf and fish cakes. Substitutes such as dried milk and dried egg are used, presumably due to continued rationing of such products at the time.Loosely inserted are various relevant articles, including material taken from A Woman's Journal, with recipes contributed by Scottish home economist, journalist and author on cookery, Elizabeth Craig. Also inserted are numerous other handwritten recipes, one of which is dated 1945. In a contemporary cloth binding. Externally, with rubbing and marks to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound.
