Quarter-bound in blue leatherette over white linen with guidon on cover typical of The Hidden Springs series and gilt titling; frontispiece features a tipped-in color reprint of "Custer's Last Charge:', 53pp. Laid-in is original promotional piece. Very Good in mylar cover; top right corner bumped; typical of this book, top and bottom edges of cover are toned; very small bookseller sticker at bottom right of front pastedown. Nye's text was originally published as an article in the Army Veterinary Bulletin, 35 (2), April 1941, #3471, a supplement to the Army Medical Bulletin. A study of the conditions and demands on the 7th Cavalry soldiers and horses during the march from the Yellowstone River to the Little Big Horn battlefield. Nye's conclusion is that the four-day march left men and horses extremely worn out. Friswold added a fine photo-essay of Custer on horseback. A scarce item being the first published volume in the Hidden Springs of Custeriana series. Don't pass up this collectible copy.
