Paul Ehrlich è stato un medico e scienziato tedesco, di origini ebree, vincitore del premio Nobel che ha lavorato nei campi dell'ematologia, dell' immunologia e della chemioterapia antimicrobica. Gli viene attribuito il merito di aver trovato una cura per la sifilide nel 1909 il composto 606 "Salvarsan". Nonostante i risultati eccellenti della sperimentazione Ehrlich ne ritardò la pubblicazione scientifica per continuare la sperimentazione ed essere assolutamente certo degli effetti del 606. Dopo l'annuncio al pubblico del nuovo farmaco, l'attività di Ehrlich riguardò principalmente il perfezionamento dei metodi con cui il "Salvarsan" veniva somministrato e lo studio degli eventuali effetti collaterali che esso poteva provocare. La scoperta dell'arsfenamina (Salvarsan), diede il via al concetto di chemioterapia.

Exemplaire orné d'une superbe aquarelle originale de l'illustrateur, représentant une scène de maison close. Envoi manuscrit de l'auteur : "A Georges Girard, maître imprimeur, maître éditeur, maître ami, en vive sympathie de Peau de Souris et de son homme, Henry - Jacques". Envoi manuscrit de l'illustrateur : "A mon vieil ami, Georges Girard, ce petit "conte de fesses" avec ma solide amitié, Antral, 1926". A folio book bound in vellum with color illustration of Christ with lamb stamped on the front panel and raised bands on the spine. Signed by the artist. 9 mounted woodcut plates each signed in pencil with the artist's monogram and date. The Psalm is printed in large text with exquisite decorative floral borders. The book is smoke-stained around the margins of the front cover, the spine, 3" along the back cover at the spine, and the page edges with some penetration into the page margins, also the boards are splayed. . Paolo Paschetto (1885-1963) was a devout Christian who apparently regarded his iconographic art as a calling or avocation as much as a profession. He served as a professor at the Royal Academy of Art in Rome. He was known in Italy as one of the foremost black-and-white artists and illustrators. Light wear; very good.
