Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Industrial robots carry out simple tasks in customized environments for which it is typical that nearly all e ector movements can be planned during an - line phase. A continual control based on sensory feedback is at most necessary at e ector positions near target locations utilizing torque or haptic sensors. It is desirable to develop new-generation robots showing higher degrees of autonomy for solving high-level deliberate tasks in natural and dynamic en- ronments. Obviously, camera-equipped robot systems, which take and process images and make use of the visual data, can solve more sophisticated robotic tasks. The development of a (semi-) autonomous camera-equipped robot must be grounded on an infrastructure, based on which the system can acquire and/or adapt task-relevant competences autonomously. This infrastructure consists of technical equipment to support the presentation of real world training samples, various learning mechanisms for automatically acquiring function approximations, and testing methods for evaluating the quality of the learned functions. Accordingly, to develop autonomous camera-equipped robot systems one must rst demonstrate relevant objects, critical situations, and purposive situation-action pairs in an experimental phase prior to the application phase. Secondly, the learning mechanisms are responsible for - quiring image operators and mechanisms of visual feedback control based on supervised experiences in the task-relevant, real environment. This paradigm of learning-based development leads to the concepts of compatibilities and manifolds. Compatibilities are general constraints on the process of image formation which hold more or less under task-relevant or accidental variations of the imaging conditions.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 304 pp. Englisch.

Naturw. Rundsch., 17, 25-27. - Braunschweig, Druck und Verlag von Friedrich Vieweg und Sohn, 1902, kl.-8°, 32 pp., orig. Broschur. Rare offprint! Presented at the Morphological and Physiological Society on 13 May 1902. "The two essays of Wolfgang Pauli, cited by Landsteiner in his paper of 1903, are both very critical of Otto Bütschli's theory of the honeycomb structure of gels and conclude that physico-chemically there is no evidence of a two-phase system. But Pauli does not mention Nageli by name: he refers only to "a view expressed years ago and based on studies of the way in which water is held in gels. Instead he refers to the separation of opposing reactions in living tissue, with the Hering-Mach interpretation of it. Landsteiner picks up this reference to Hering, but does not mention Mach. It is this new, highly exciting colloid chemistry that Landsteiner now began to apply to the problems of immunology. He seems to have met with Pauli and with colloid chemistry at almost the same time: at least, he mentions neither before 1903. Pauli, in his essay of 1902, refers to "the beautiful investigations of Bordet, Ehrlich, and Landsteiner." von Pauline M. H. Mazumdar. Species and Specificity: An Interpretation of the History of Immunology. Wolfgang Josef Pauli (1869-1955) was a physician and biochemist at the University of Vienna. In 1919 he became full professor and director of the Institute for Physical-Chemical Biology. From 1922 and until his emigration to Switzerland (19B8) he served as director of the newly established Institute for Medical Colloid Chemistry.

MMW, 50/ 4. - München, Verlag J.F. Lehmann, 27. Januar 1903, 4°, pp.145-192, feine Broschur. First Edition! "Hypotensive action of thiocyanates first noted by Wolfgang Pauli (1869-1955)". Wolfgang Pauli came from a Jewish publishing family in Prague (his father Jacob Pascheles was a bookseller) and was originally called Wolf Pascheles, but he changed his name in 1898 after converting to Catholicism. Pauli attended the Altstädter Gymnasium in Prague and studied medicine there from 1887 at the German Karl Ferdinands University, obtaining his doctorate in 1893. His teachers included Ernst Mach and Franz Hofmeister. After receiving his doctorate, he was an assistant at the Rudolfspital in Vienna and from 1894 at the university clinic under Hermann Nothnagel, with whom he habilitated in internal medicine in 1899 (studies on the swelling process). In 1908 he became associate professor and in 1919 full professor of biological-physical chemistry and head of the institute at the University of Vienna. In 1934 he became emeritus professor and as a "Jew" (according to the Reich Citizenship Law) had to leave Vienna after the "Anschluss" of Austria in 1938. He went to Zurich and worked there with Paul Karrer at the Chemical Institute of the University. He did fundamental work in colloid chemistry and developed a theory of colloids. With the observation that the surface charge of proteins depends on the pH value, he provided a basis for electrophoresis and, together with Karl Landsteiner, developed a precursor of electrophoresis devices (transfer apparatus for protein purification). He investigated the influence of the charge of proteins on hydration, swelling and optical rotation, studied the effect of protective colloids and the effect of ionising radiation on proteins. He was married to the journalist and women's rights activist Bertha Pauli and is the father of Wolfgang Pauli and Hertha Pauli. After the death of his wife Berta in 1927, he married the sculptress Maria Rottler in 1928. Garrison & Morton No.2712.
