Photo. Zustand: Very Good. Hand-tinted color photo of Taku Glacier in Alaska produced by the Winter and Pond photography studio. The title "Taku Glacier / Alaska." , the number "24", and the copyright "Winter & Pond / Juneau, Alaska" all appear in the negative. Photo measures about 10 ½ x 6 ¾ inches. Date unknown. No content on verso. Photo paper is somewhat wavy; a few very small spots of discoloration. Overall, very good condition. Lloyd Valentine Winter (1866-1945) and Edwin Percy Pond (1872-1943) operated a photography studio in Alaska for over 50 years starting in the 1890s. They were known for documenting the Klondike Gold Rush, the culture of the indigenous Tlingit people, and many glaciers and landmarks near Juneau. The Taku Glacier, located just southeast of Juneau, is the thickest alpine temperate glacier in the world. ; Color Photograph.

Winter & Pond operated their Juneau-based curio and photography studio for over 50 years. They expanded their business by publishing scrapbooks or albums of original photographs on subjects of interest to the tourist trade.
