In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. There was life before the fall. 1989 was a year of astonishing and rapid change: the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and an end to an entire way of life for millions of people behind the Iron Curtain. Bloc Life collects first hand testimony of the people who lived in East Germany, Czechoslovakia and Romania during the Cold War era, and reveals a rich tapestry of experience that goes beyond the headlines of spies and surveillance, secret police and political corruption. In fact, many of the people remember their lives under communism as 'perfectly ordinary' and even hanker for the 'security' that it offered. From political leaders, athletes and pop stars, to cooks, miners and cosmonauts, the stories collected in Bloc Life evoke the moods, preoccupations and experiences of a world that vanished almost overnight. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

The wraps are in fine condition. 9 x 8 ½, 104 pages, 13 ounces. XX INTRODUCTION: This catalog is a successor to WOOL TECHNOLOGY AND THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, published in 1965 by the Merrimack Valley Textile Museum. The exhibit on which that catalog was based was installed in 1964 and was slightly revised on several occasions during the following decade. In 1975, with financial assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts, the exhibit was substantially changed and re-installed under the rubric "Homespun to Factory Made: Woolen Textiles in America, 1776- 1876" which has been adopted as the title of this catalog. Our aim is to present to a general audience the objects. and illustrations which document the techniques of woolen cloth making during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The text complements and interprets the exhibit materials. We hope this volume will fill a long-felt need for information about a subject which is widely discussed but difficult to understand. As this may be the only book in the English-speaking world which covers the subject in this fashion, we expect it will serve an audience which varies greatly in age and education. Suggestions from readers regarding the content of a future edition will be welcomed.
