The books is in really good condition, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. The odd speckle of foxing hardly noticeable. First printed in 1946, this edition was first printed by The Reprint Society Ltd. By arrangement with Jonathan Cape 1952, however this specific book is a third impression October 1953. 320 pages all intact, all pages, text and illustrations are in good, clean, readable order. The book was dedicated to The Librarian and Staff of the national Library of Wales Aberystwyth. Text printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay and Company Ltd, Bungay, Suffolk. Gravure plates by Harrison and Sons Ltd, High Wycombe, Bucks. A fascinating and informative book.

Seven captioned wood engravings on two newspaper leaves from Harper's Weekly: six on one page (each approx 10 x 11cms) and one three-quarter page (30 x 22.5cms), with related commentary, sheet size 40 x 28cms, small edge tear too the inner margin of the larger engraving (no loss) in all very good condition. The three-quarter page engraving "The Feast of Lanterns" includes a brief text article describing all the engravings in the lower margin which continues on the verso of sheet. The six vignette illustrations are: ?Death in the Cage?, ?Conveying Prisoners to the Lock-up?, ?Coolies?, ?A Mendicant?, ?The Rain-coat?, and ?Convicts?.
