Dedicated to the Venetian humanist Marino Sanudo (a longtime friend of Manutius and an important collector of ancient texts), the volume presents the three preeminent Latin elegiac poets, whose works had already been grouped together since antiquity and have often been printed together since the dawn of printing. Sulpicia's poems (which appear, as they had traditionally, embedded within the third book of Tibullus' works) are the only surviving texts in Latin written by an Ancient Roman woman.
