Offprint, stapled. Zustand: Sehr gut. pp. 33-48. Dedicated to Wolfgang Haase by the author. - From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Author's name underlined, otherwise very good and clean. - From the text: The time is the present, the place ancient Greece. So says Nathan Lane as the god Dionysos, setting the scene for Stephen Sondheims updated version of Aristophanes Frogs.1 The line might perhaps also serve as an introduction to Alan Parkers 1987 detective film Angel Heart,2 based on the 1978 novel Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg.3 Both novel and film tell the story of detective Harry Angel and his search for missing jazz and pop music star Johnny Favorite. His search leads Harry unwittingly to an incestuous relationship with his daughter and to the discovery of his double identity as Angel and Favorite, hunter and hunted, detective and killer. Novel and film are set in the 1950s, and both disclose the double identity of the protagonist by revealing that he murdered a man kidnapped from Times Square in the early 1940s. A number of critics have noted in passing some of the obvious parallels between the novel and film and Sophocles Oedipus Rex. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 250.
