La rilevanza de «La Composizione del Mondo colle sue cascioni», il cui termine di stesura viene esplicitamente indicato dallo stesso autore in chiusura di testo al 1282, nell'ambito della cultura toscana delle Origini, e più in particolare in quello dell'aretino dugentesco, di cui rappresenta la più significativa testimonianza, sebbene affermata in linea di principio, quasi mai ha trovato in campo letterario un atteggiamento conseguente nella pratica. Infatti al trattato è stato dato, anche nelle scelte antologiche, un rilievo minimo, ma più spesso non lo si è ritenuto degno nemmeno di menzione. Questo poco comprensibile disinteresse ha fatto sì che fino ad oggi l'unica edizione integrale disponibile sia rimasta quella curata da Enrico Narducci, la quale, apparsa nel 1859, ha costituito la base per la maggior parte delle scarse ricerche e citazioni.
