Original dark cloth; spine ends chipped with frayed tear at head; light staining along top edges of front and rear boards; slender 3cm cloth loss near top of rear joint; board corners worn. Several small stains along fore-edge and bottom edge; moderate soiling and foxing to endpapers; pencil initials on front free endpaper verso; some occasional margin marks and underlining all in pencil upon interior leaves; one margin note also in pencil on page 49. Laid-in is an old business card (circa 1920s or 1930s?) for R.M.C. Green, a St. Louis, Missouri and East St. Louis, Illinois funeral home, so perhaps some funeral director found some consoling words amongst Skinner's sermons. Despite pagination of preliminary leaves, the book does not appear to be missing any pages as first four leaves (title/copyright leaf; Preface/blank; and Table of Contents pages ix/x-xi/xii) are pulled with a mild binding split evident between pages xii-13.
