Uncommon pre-release softcover, with a limited distribution prior to the release of the first edition hardcover. The top of the book is stamped "SAMPLE COPY, NOT FOR SALE". The exterior wraps are actually designed to mimic the dust jacket of the upcoming hardcover, so it shows the front and rear flaps on the inside. The exterior is toned and spotted/stained and the spine shows wrinkling and a bit of a lean. There is also a tear on the cover at the lower left edge which measures just over 1 inch. The interior binding is good although there is some stained marks within the hinge areas, with the worst being opposite the title page. There are no signatures or handwriting, underlining, library markings etc. The only thing present was the stamped message on the top edge of the book as mentioned earlier. The book does show a fair amount of handling and edge bumps, but these copies were never meant to be read over and over as it was just for review purposes.
