Four-page "Family Record" (blank) in Vol. I. Annotation on endpaper of Vol. I. Rubbing along joints, tips, and edges of covers; Very Good. Large-format Bible with added commentary and illustrated with steel engravings and color lithographic maps. Commentary in the Old Testament is by author and Church of Scotland minister Robert Jamieson (1802-1880) of Glasgow. Includes "A Practical and Explanatory Commentary on the New Testament" by Edward Henry Bickersteth (1825-1906), hymn writer and later Anglican bishop of Exeter. Frontispiece Illustrated with "Miriam" and Title Page Illustrated with "Moses in the Bulrushes". Beautifully Illustrated Bible, Containing the Old and the New Testaments and having 37 Illustrated Plates ( 3 of them Coloured Maps). The Commentary on The Old Testament is by Rev. Robert Jamieson. A Second Illustrated Title Page before the "Poetical Books, starting with the Book of Job, is Illustrated with Our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane. Commentary by Rev. Jamieson and Rev. E. H. Bickersteth. Frontispiece opposite has a lovely Illustration of the Madonna and Child. Small closed tear in lower margin. The New Testament begins with a Printed Title Page stating that the Commentary is by Rev. Edward Henry Bickersteth. Frontispiece Illustrated with The Three Magi following the Star. Text is arranged in Double Columns with References in narrow inner margins. Copious Footnotes. 14 3/4" Tall. Text ends at Revelation XXI. Pages a little age darkened. A little light foxing on plates, mainly marginal. Some edge wear and rubbing to leather (see photos). Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
