Erstausgabe
Duesseldorf: Zagava:, 2023. First edition, Chapbook, Limited, New, 14 pp. Out of print on publication. Hand-sewn booklet, printed on a few handmade cotton rag pages with deckled edges. With a drawing by Nick Blinko. "tried recalling my earliest memories of him - that walk along the river, my first day of school. I tried conjuring earlier events, but the images grew hazy, lost within the nothingness of infancy. I found this strange void troubling, this life I'd lived yet couldn't recall. To me it seemed as though the world began with my earliest memory of it, that it was born fully formed the moment my recollection claimed it and that prior to that moment there had been no life, no earth, no planets, no sun or stars - just emptiness. We often find ephemera lost or long forgotten between the pages of the old books we buy. In this instance a man discovers a photograph hidden within his father's copy of Le Corbusier's "Toward a New Architecture", a photograph of his father as a child. With him in the photograph is the architect Le Corbusier himself. A note on the back of the photograph, added later by Le Corbusier, identifies the location as Ronchamp, in France. This discovery sparks an investigation into his father's hidden life. When we go digging into the past we often learn that the things we thought we knew, we didn't know quite as well as we thought. In this story, the photograph found between the pages of Le Corbusier's book could, on the surface, suggest an architectural legacy dating back to Napoleonic France, or it might simply be an indication that he and his father often lived in different, often separate worlds." Softcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 14 x 23 cm, 144 pages, 19 b/w illustrations - For Jacques Rancière, politics is not primarily the exercise of or struggle for power, but the institution of a certain type of space and time, a mode of visibility and intelligibility that creates a tear in the consensual fabric of a given form of collective life. Art institutes just such a space and time, in which the fundamental polarities of experienceactivity and passivity, form and matter, appearance and realityare suspended and transformed. The essays collected in this volume, based on a symposium held at Art Center College of Design (Pasadena), consider the knot formed in Rancière's work between aesthetics, politics, and education. From his earliest work ("The Lesson of Althusser," 1974) to his magisterial book on the pedagogical theory of Joseph Jacotot ("The Ignorant Schoolmaster," 1981), the theme of education has been at the center of Rancière's concerns; his apparently recent turn to aesthetics, after the 1995 publication of "The Disagreement," should in turn be understood as a continuation of his studies of the aesthetic experiments conducted during the post-work nights of 19th-century proletarians ("The Nights of Labor," 1981).
