A beautiful edition of this famous cookbook, by the partner of Gertrude Stein (who wrote the so-called 'Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas). Originally published in 1954, this collection of recipes is heavily influenced by the many years Toklas and Stein spent in Paris (where Toklas cooked for famous friends including Picasso, Hemingway and Wilder) and includes memories of that city as well as Spain, rural France and the USA. Introduction by MFK Fisher.

Originally published in 1954, this 30th Anniversary edition is filled with marvelous stories and anecdotes on gastronomy and art as well as wonderful recipes from the Stein/Toklas household in Paris during the Twenties, Thirties and Forties. It also includes Toklas' famous hash brownies. First Printing of the First Reprint Edition.

The edges of the spine and boards are a bit dinged and rubbed. The endpapers are darkened along the hinges. There are prominent tape stains to the recto of the front flyleaf, and on the verso there is a previous owner's bookplate. Illustrations by Sir Francis Rose. Written by Gertrude Stein's long-term partner. Pg. 259- the Hashish Fudge recipe has been removed. The British edition, which preceded the Harpers edition by just a few days, included the recipe, however the Harper's edition omitted it.
