SI Edition (1971) is from that glorious age when maths textbooks: Assumed you owned a slide rule Expected you to show your working in pen And believed, quite sincerely, that a few hundred pages of algebra, calculus and trigonometry were good for your character This is pure mathematics, in the sense that there is very little padding and absolutely no hand-holding . What?s inside (besides your academic flashbacks) You get the full school-to-early-university treatment: Algebra : Equations, inequalities, functions, and the dawning realisation that letters are now numbers in disguise Trigonometry : Sine, cosine, tangent Identities to prove Diagrams that look deceptively friendly until the exercise number starts with a (iii) Calculus : Differentiation and integration introduced in that brisk, 1970s Longman tone: ?Here is the idea. Here are some examples. Now off you go.? Sequences, series, and other toys : Enough to convince you infinity is not a vibe but a workload And because this is the SI Edition : Everything is rendered in sensible, metric units No furlongs per fortnight, no pounds and shillings lurking in word problems?just clean modern units attempting to distract you from the fact you?re still stuck on question 5(b).
