It was Ellen MacGregor's first children's book. At the time she wrote the story, it was for an assignment at a Midwestern Writer's Conference. She wrote stories with correct scientific information that would intrigue young children. This book was the first of her career. The next book featured popular her character, Miss Pickerell. Miss Pickerell went on to have many adventures, including a story that appeared as the first selection of the Weekly Reader Book Club. Privately owned with personalized imprint on first and last pages. Was at some time donated to a private school library, D. McRae School Library. Hardcover binding, with Lithographed pictorial paste-on. Pictorial endpapers of phone lines across a colorful town. Features rotary phones, switchboard, and automobiles of the time period. Illustrated in color and in black & white. 32 pages of text. Roughly 9.5" x 7.5" Excellent condition for it's age. Slight fraying and wear on edges of cover. Clean and bright. Pages in-tact and tight. Only marks are subtle indicators from library and original owner on spine, front inside and title page. We found a small tear on the bottom of a page close to the last.
