On the half-title page it reads '12/31/01 For Steve Friedman, With best wishes, J Boyarin''. As you can see from the photographs, the maroon covers are exceptionally clean. The silver lettering on the spine is very bright. There is very little wear, two small dents on the bottom edges and a little creasing at the spine ends and bottom corners. This book is square, straight and very solidly bound, no cracks or spaces, very tight pages throughout. The pages are very clean. In scrolling through, I didn't see any soiling at all. I did find that the tip of the corners of three consecutive pages had gotten squinched. I flattened them out, but they'll probably be a little crease there. The rest of the pages appear to be perfect. And there aren't any markings or attachments in this book. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. One oddity I want to relate: when you open up and then close the rear cover it makes a crackling sound. I've done it now more than 20 times to make sure that there isn't anything wrong. There isn't. I think it may be haunted. I hope that doesn't dissuade anybody from buying it. The dust jacket can be seen in the first few photographs. It's in pretty nice condition. It has a few nicks, a little creasing at the spine ends, and a little, what appears to be, handling soiling on the rear cover. There are no tears on the jacket. It is not clipped and will be fitted with a protective cover.
