Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. First Edition. William J. Schaldach's Currents & Eddies is a hybrid of angling memoir, naturalist observation, and visual art—an artist‑angler's record of waters fished, fish pursued, and the moods of the outdoors. The book blends reflective essays with Schaldach's own illustrations, capturing trout streams, game fish, and the quiet rituals of field and water. Across its chapters, Schaldach writes with the sensibility of both a sportsman and a painter: attentive to light, movement, seasons, and the personalities of fish. Episodes range from early memories and formative days on the water to mature reflections on technique, ethics, and the aesthetics of angling. The tone is contemplative, steeped in mid‑century sporting literature's reverence for solitude, craftsmanship, and the natural world. The first edition is notable for its high production values—quality paper, strong typography, and well‑reproduced B&W and color plates—making it as much an art object as a fishing book. For collectors, it stands as one of the classic American illustrated angling titles of the 1930s-40s era. THIS LIMITED EDITION of just 5000 copies, printed near the end of World War II in October of 1944, has many serious condition issues, but it has survived it's life journey from New York, to New Foundland, where it was offered to the public by the Newfoundland Tourist Development Board, all the way down to Florida! The cover is in very bad condition but the pages are clean and the art is unharmed. Hard cover edition with unclipped dustjacket. 138 pages. Dimensions: 9" by 11.25". Published by A.S.
