Buch
London, Longman and Rees, 1800, octavo (cm. 21 x 14), splendid full-leather contemporary binding (by Francis Bedford), five-ribs spine, with exquisite golden floral ornaments and titles on label, framed covers, golden edges, elegant small-tools frames on inside-covers, gardes marbrées, pp. (VI)-214-(2) + (X)-157-(3) with a copper-engraved portrait of Wallenstein at the frontispiece. First, very early (the two dramas were first performed in 1799) English edition of this Romantic monument. Coleridge, who famously criticized the process of translation itself, was later to consider this work as a ?one of his finest achievements" (Holmes). For various reasons, Coleridge decided not to translate ?Le Camp de Wallenstein? (which would complete the original trilogy). Therefore, this work has to be regarded as complete. Repaired joints; very light browning of the paper. A very good copy.
