It examines the establishment and early years of the school, as well as the controversy surrounding the principal's resignation in 1880. The book also explores the concurrent authority and powers of the local board and the Superintendent of Public Instruction in the governance of normal schools. Through this case study, this book provides valuable insights into the historical development and governance of teacher education in New York State, and the broader national context of educational reform and expansion in the late 19th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
7.25" x 10.75" photo album with 49 leaves, 86 pages in use, one page is missing half and one page is detached. There are over 300 photos of various sizes in the album, mostly held to the page with corner tabs. A few photos are detached and about 20 photos are missing. The album dates from the late 1910s to the early 1920s and appears to have belonged to a young woman who likes to hang out with her friends. There are several photos of affectionate women, a mock wedding, family photos and there are five photos from the corner laying ceremony in 1922 of the Cortland Normal school. The school was destroyed by a fire in 1919 and was rebuilt in 1922. The photos show Mr Bowers, Mr. Cornish and Dr. DeGroat, all associated with the school, at the corner laying ceremony. The school is now known as the State University of New York at Corland. A few photos are annotated and there are two wedding announcements for Lois McInerney, though I do not know if she is the one that put this album together. The album is in good overall condition.
