Soft cover. Zustand: Fair. SCOTT, J. F. (illustrator). 1st Edition. Soft covers are showing some wear and tear, particularly at the tail of front cover and spine. Corners and spine creased. Head and tail of spine heavily worn, yet binding is neat. Covers rubbed and discoloured, edges well thumbed. Page edges bear heavy discolouration, this flows through to the edges of all pages. Some foxing throughout, although light. Binding split at rear and centre, else book is in fair condition. *We always describe the faults of our books meticulously; they usually present better than they sound.

Thos. Stothard (illustrator). Octavo. Engraved title and 6 engraved plates after paintings by Thos. Stothard. Full diced calf, incredibly skilfully rebacked saving original boards, spine and endpapers. All edges gilt. The book is almost certainly from the library of Henry Ralph Rokeby of Arthingworth Hall in Northamptonshire. Henry Rokeby was a naval officer who fought at the Battle Of Finisterre against the French in the run-up to Trafalgar. He left the Royal Navy in 1830, becamed Rector of Arthingworth Parish and later Lord of the Manor upon the death of his brother. The book bears his name stamped in gold to the front board. The hall was badly damaged by fire in 1900 and demolished in 1950.
