Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is an insightful and engaging look at the life and times of David Ritchie, the original of Sir Walter Scott's Black Dwarf. The author delves into the enigmatic character of Ritchie, exploring his complex psychology, physical deformities, and social isolation. Through meticulous research and personal accounts, the author paints a vivid picture of Ritchie's life in rural Peeblesshire, Scotland, where he became a source of awe and wonder among the local community. The book also examines the broader historical and literary context of the era, shedding light on the social attitudes towards deformity and the role of superstition and folklore in shaping people's perceptions. Ultimately, this book offers a nuanced understanding of a fascinating and enigmatic figure, highlighting the profound impact of physical and social adversity on the human spirit. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
