In the 1950s he moved to Twentieth Century-Fox, and was the producer there for "An Affair to Remember" (1957), "Peyton Place" (1957), and "Sons and Lovers" (1960). An ambitious woman forces her talented younger sister to marry a traveling song-and-dance man in order for them both to escape their hardscrabble life in their small hometown. Although both women gain money and power as the sister's star rises, their personal relationships suffer as a result of the fame. Loosely based on Ginger Rogers' relationship with her first husband, Jack Pepper (whom Rogers married at the age of 17), and her mother Lela.
