    Paper. Zustand: Good. First Edition. An Original Letter Part written and Signed by Major-General John Vaughan C1910. On one side is a covering letter from a gentleman to Mr Hartree with regards to Vaughan signing this letter. Clipped section written in the hand of Vaughhan. Major-General John Vaughan 1871-1956 was a cavalry officer in the 7th (Queen's Own) Hussars and the 10th (The Prince of Wales's Own) Royal Hussars of the British Army.He fought in several conflicts on the African continent. During the First World War he commanded the 3rd Cavalry Brigade and then the 3rd Cavalry Division. For which he was awarded an Order of the Bath, and a Bar for the Distinguished Service Order, the first of which he had received in South Africa. Post war he became the Welsh President of the British Legion, a Deputy Lieutenant for Merionethshire and a Justice of the Peace. During the Second World War he returned to the army as a Zone Commander in the Home Guard Size is 150mm x 100mm. Condition is good. Light folding creases. More images can be taken upon request.     Paper. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter by Major John Grant of the Irish 89th Foot to Charles Forbes Merchant of India. Dated 1810. The letter relates Grants Appointment as a Major in the 89th Regiment, his presentation to the king and affairs in Parliament. John Grant formally of the 86th regiment retuned from India in 1810 and was promoted to Major of the 89th on 14th Match 1810. He was mortally wounded near Malaga during the Peninsular War (1808-14) on 14th October 1810 aged 48 and buried in Gibraltar. Size is 228mm x 188mm. In good condition with folding creases. Small triangle cut out at rear of letter. Paper residue to rear edge. Ref19048. Signed by Author(s).

A good letter discussing a recent engagement with the enemy and the various charges the regiment made upon the enemy. The letter goes on to discuss waiting for another expedition at a train station and the death of a colleague due to cholera. Major John Francis Burn-Murdoch 1859-1931. Son of Rev Canon Burn-Murdoch and educated at Eton. Joined Royal Dragoons, 1878; served Nile Expedition, 1884-1885; action of Abu Klea; commanded detachment of Camel Corps at El Gubat (medal, two clasps, Khedive star); Adjutant, Royal Dragoons, 1886-1888; passed through Staff College, 1889; Brigade-Major of Cavalry Horse Guards, 1890-91; Brigade-Major Cavalry Brigade.
