Paperback original. Zustand: Fine. Signed by performers Paul Robeson, Lawrence Brown, and Ania Dorfmann, a leaflet from the International Celebrity Subscription Concert Series program. (illustrator). First Edition Thus. The concert, headlined by Robeson, took place at Colston Hall in Bristol, England on March 23, 1935. Leaflet measures 5.25" x 3.75". Cream cardstock, faint toning to rounded edges. Previous binding marks remain on left side. No notable creases or marks, a fine example. The International Celebrity Concert Series in Bristol dates back to 1919. The goal of the program was to provide all classes of the public with the opportunity to see four internationally noteworthy performers over the course of a year, with a show roughly every other month from October to May. Tickets for the Paul Robeson concert ranged from 2/6 to 10/6 and were available for purchase from Charles H. Lockier, one of the directors of the program. Robeson and his pianist, Lawrence Brown, headlined the performance with opening acts by the Lener Quartet and Ania Dorfmann. Signed.

SIGNED in blue ink by Robeson on his portrait, SIGNED on title-page by Hegedus and Brown in green ink and by Hambourg in pencil with "1939" added in pencil at bottom, presumably by Hambourg. Program dated February 9th 1939 in ink on front cover which would place the performance at the Guildhall in Southampton, according to the list in this program of the 28 places in Great Britain and Ireland at which Robeson et al were scheduled to perform between January 11 and April 10. We assume that this program was used for all of those performances. Olga Hegedus's signature is somewhat indistinct but the other signatures are clear. The Robesons were living in England in 1939. They returned to the United States in October, 1939, a few weeks after Great Britain declared war on Germany.

Includes Beckett Letter of Authenticity. President William H. Taft spoke on July 4, 1911 at the Marion Club Banquet, held at the Claypool Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. He was hosted in Indianapolis by former Vice President Charles Fairbanks. Taft spoke on the recently negotiated Canadian-American Reciprocity Treaty, which aimed to reduce agricultural tariffs. The treaty was unpopular in Canada, where many believed it was a step towards "annexation" by the United States. With the election of a conservative Canadian government in 1911, the treaty was not ratified. Signed.

This event marked the first national observance of "Air Force Day," designated by President Truman six weeks earlier to honor the Army Air Forces on its 40th anniversary. The event was hosted shortly before the National Security Act of 1947, which created a separate military branch for the United States Air Force. Gen. Doolittle served as the master of ceremonies, and the featured speaker was General of the Army Air Forces, Carl Spaatz. Signed.
