Hardcover. Zustand: New. This book explores four decades of Robert Irwin's outdoor environment projects through his drawings and architectural models. Over the course of a storied career, Robert Irwin has come to regard art as site determined, or something that works in and responds to its surroundings. This book opens with his projects on college campuses between 1975 and 1982. These are followed by Irwin's major, yet never realized, commission for the Miami International Airport, where he proposed to transform the structure, parking lots, and roadways into a sequence of aesthetic and practical spaces that engaged directly with the South Florida environment. It then turns to one of Irwin's most celebrated works, the Central Garden at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Finally, the book takes readers to the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, and one of Irwin's most ambitious works to date--a monumental artwork that brilliantly connects viewers to the land and sky. Throughout this collection of drawings, models, and photographs of magnificent, groundbreaking projects, readers will come to see Irwin as a visionary artist and a brilliant draftsman. This book explores four decades of Robert Irwin's outdoor environment projects through his drawings and architectural models. BEAUTIFUL COPY!!! No dj as issued.

Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Previously unpublished interviews with some of Americas leading postwar artistsincluding Frankenthaler, Johns, Oldenburg, Rauschenberg, Stella and Warholoriginally conducted for TV in the mid-60s by famed curator Alan SolomonThis substantial volume publishes for the first time a series of interviews conducted with seminal East Coast artists and their associates, including Kenneth Noland, Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, Marcella Brenner, Helen Jacobson, Clement Greenberg, Helen Frankenthaler, Larry Poons, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, Barnett Newman, Leo Castelli, Andy Warhol, Gerard Malanga and Edie Sedgwick. These were produced in late 1965 and early 1966 for the documentary television series USA: Artists by famed curator Alan Solomon, who was a regular fixture in the New York art world of the time. This was a logical extension of Solomon's recent curatorial involvements, including most importantly his organization of the United States exhibition at the 1964 Venice Biennale. The half-hour format of the episodes meant that a vast amount of Solomons original interviews, some of which lasted an hour or more, wound up on the cutting-room floor. At some point after the series was completed the original filmed and tape-recorded interviews were lost. A single set of typed transcripts, preserved in the Alan R. Solomon papers at the Archives of American Art, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution (copublisher of this volume), is the sole complete record of the original interviews. The New York Tapes gathers these interview transcripts and publishes them as a group for the first time, extensively illustrated with numerous stills from the television programs and related documentation. The transcripts make available material that was not included in the final programs, while also revealing how what was included became subtly manipulated to fit the format of documentary television. An informative introduction by editor Matthew Simms sets the project in context and highlights the differences between the interviews and the films, shedding new light on a germinal moment in postwar American art and how it was presented to the public. In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: New. Robert Irwin began his career in the 1950s as an abstract painter. As a pioneer of the Light and Space movement in Los Angeles in the 1970s and early '80s, Irwin focused on exploring aesthetic perception as the fundamental feature of art, culminating in what he terms "conditional art" or "site-conditioned work." In addition to being a prolific artist, Irwin has been an active writer throughout his career. This book-now in paperback-includes previously published pieces along with a significant selection of writings published for the first time. The book makes clear that writing as a reflection on aesthetic questions is an integral element of Irwin's multifaceted art practice.
