Hardcovers, 10 volume matched set containing the entire second series of the Young People's Book-shelf, purchased from the original family in the early 1980s. All 10 volumes square bindings and are similar in color. This is pointed out because the phot…os may shows some variations or bowing of the boards, which was only caused by the camera. There are a couple volumes that have a slightly lower condition rating, but this is only because of they have small tears at the bottom of the spine cloth. This issue can be seen on the photo showing all 10 spines. All the books have good interior binding, there are no hinge cracks, no handwriting, no bookplates or any other markings. All of the text pages are clean and without issues. Some of the titles would grade as VG+ only because of the small tear at the bottom of the spine, others grade as a high near fine to fine condition. Overall grade of all 10 volumes has been give a low near fine condition to borderline VG+. All the boards show various degrees of minor corner bumps/wear and some random scuffs and spots on the exterior page edges. Exterior do show a bit of toning and spotting in spots and all the spines show some sunning. There is no publication date listed but this series was published in 1909 (ref: The Publisher's Weekly, No. 1976 - Dec 11, 1909, page 1881) . In den WarenkorbSee his entry, and that of Colburn, in the Oxford DNB. Campbell agreed to edit Colburn's 'New Monthly Magazine' in 1820, his first number in the post being that of January 1821, and the letter was presumably written between this period and Mrs Campbell's death in 1828. The reference to 'Mr Ollier' would close the dates even furt…her: the Oxford DNB's entry for Charles Ollier (1788-1859) stating that, after financial difficulties, 'by the autumn of 1825 he returned to the publishing trade as the chief literary reader and adviser to Henry Colburn in New Burlington Street'. 1p, 12mo. On the recto of the first leaf of a bifolium, the verso of the second leaf being addressed by Mrs Campbell to 'H. Colbourn Esqr / 8 New Burlington St- / In Mr Colbourn's absence to Mr Dubourg' (i.e. Colburn's agent George Dubourg). Campbell's misspelling of Colburn's name is puzzling, considering his professional association with him. In good condition on browned and lightly-worn paper. With folds for postage. The first eleven words are in a more inky style than the rest of the letter: 'Mrs Campbell thanks Mr Colbourn for the volume about the Catholics but will not have occasion to keep it - Mr Campbell requests to have the proof sheet of Hazlitt's article about which Mr Ollier spoke to him -'.
