The Achaemenids developed an ingenious irrigation system in their satrapies situated in the North-Western India, for the benefit of the agriculture and also provided a fillip to the westerly commerce of this region by opening the trade routes. Artisans, scribes and artists from Persia sought refuge in India, gained patronage and enriched the Mauryan age. Gaining lessons from the political experiences and mistakes of the Achaemenids, the Mauryans formed a sturdy centralised administration in India. They organised a court culture heavily influenced by Persian traditions and etiquette. From the first christening of India as "Hindv" to the present day, Indo-Iranian contacts have been largely harmonious, complimentary and beneficial for the human heritage.
