Zustand: Good. Hardcover, blue cloth covers in a worn, chipped dust jacket. 165 pages plus ads. 12 plates with 33 black/white images and illustrations. Paul Siple was selected as the representative of the Boy Scouts to participate in the 1928-30 Little America Antarctic I expedition by Richard Byrd. The original assignment was to accompany the expedition and assist in setting up the base and returning before winter set in. However, he so impressed Byrd and others with his abilities and affable personality, that Byrd allowed him to winter over. When he returned from the expedition, he wrote this book and traveled, before being selected again, this time as a full staff member for the 1933-35 Little America II. He went on to a long and successful Antarctic exploration career as a geologist. Some light chipping to cloth, otherwise a clean, unmarked copy. Record # 384902.
