Although some of the illustrations have a sci-fi look to them, the technical content of the book was state-of-the-art for that time. The author was a pathologist, Clinical Professor of pathology at USC, and consultant to NASA. Included are chapters on: the pressure environment of space flight; the temperature environment; radiation; acceleration and deceleration; weightlessness; noise and vibration; metabolism; toxicology; psychology; etc. There is a detailed bibliography after each chapter.
