A. Sullivan. Brown cloth hardcover with gilt signed quote from Bill Arp on the front cover. Gilt on the spine. Yellow rear flyleaf clipped with about a quarter of the page missing. A small old taped repair on the rear blank end paper. 1866 previous owner inscription written on the right front flyleaf. A later owner's signature on the front paste down. Charles Smith, the author, served as an officer in the 8th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. After the war, Smith edited newspapers in Rome, Cartersville and Atlanta Georgia. Smith was a humorist and wrote several "letters to the editor" to the Atlanta Constitution.

Atkinson name written on the rear paste down. No other writing found inside the book. An old relic from a prominent Atlanta family. Provenance from the estate of the Mitchell family in Atlanta, Georgia. Stephens Mitchell's name written on the verso of the right front flyleaf. Stephens Mitchell (1896-1983) was the son of Eugene Muse Mitchell and Isabel "Maybelle" (Stephens) Mitchell. He was born 1896 in Atlanta. His sister was Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind. Stephens Mitchell attended the University of Georgia and was a prominent Atlanta attorney, historian, and devout Catholic. He also edited the Atlanta Historical Bulletin. After John Marsh, husband of Margaret, died in 1952 Stephens became the executor of Margaret Mitchell's estate. Stephens Mitchell died in 1983 and the estate was passed on to his two sons Eugene Muse Mitchell II and Joseph Reynolds Mitchell.
