Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the difficulties and errors in gas thermometry, especially as it reaches beyond 1150 degrees Celsius. The author traces the history of this centuries-old scientific pursuit, outlining the conceptions of gas temperature measurement from the 1800s onward, as well as the…experiments and interpretations of respected scientists like Prinsep, Pouillet, Regnault, and others. The author's own research adds to this long history, and their work not only builds on previous research, but aims to clear up some considerable uncertainty in high-temperature measurements that had come before. Their work, and the work of others they discuss, has important implications for the use of gas thermometry to calibrate other temperature-measuring instruments. A solid understanding of gas thermometry is key to accurately measuring high temperatures, and this book contributes to this understanding with its detailed descriptions of experiments, references to prior research, and discussions of error and uncertainty. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
