In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Poetry Book Society Spring 2020 Special Commendation. A handful of writers defines the canon of postcolonial anglophone poetry in India. Srinivas Rayaprol has generally been omitted from the list, but his recently published correspondence with William Carlos Williams and publisher James Laughlin reveals an accomplished, complex and enigmatic figure torn between opposing forces. His Brahmin Indian background and his profession as a civil engineer in a newly independent country were at odds with his Western education, literary vocation and demonic impulses. Such contradictions are expressed in his intense poetry, here restored to print, providing insights into Anglo-Indian and American writing, and a unique contribution to international literary modernism. The first Western edition of the poetry of the great anglophone poet of postcolonial India, Srinivas Rayaprol. Dustjacket shows loss. Rayaprol, son of a leading modern poet in Telugu late Rayaprolu Subbara, was educated at Benares Hindu University and Stanford University. He discovered modern poetry in United States, the country to which he owed both an education and "my personal emancipation." It was a debt of gratitude, but it did not make him a wide eyed admirer of all things American. In the final issue of East and West, a magazine he founded and edited from 1956 to 1961, Rayaprol said reading contemporary American poetry with its "beatniks and Jazz poets and the daytime poets and nighttime poets, the poets in pony tails and the poets of hoola-hoop school, I feel sick - of myself, of this world and this present state of writing. " His opinions endeared him to some American poets; among them William Carlos Williams, who was contributor to East and West and with whom Rayaprol carried on a long term correspondence. - from Muse IndiaHe published three books of poems: Bones and Distances (1968), Married Love and Other Poems (1972), and Selected Poems (1995).

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A rediscovered voice in Indian postcolonial literature. Srinivas Rayaprol's Angular Desire showcases the intense poetry and insightful prose of an enigmatic figure, long omitted from the canon. Torn between his Indian Brahmin roots and Western influences, Rayaprol's work explores cultural hybridity, love, and the search for self with a unique modernist sensibility. This collection, edited by Graziano Krätli and Vidyan Ravinthiran, offers a fresh perspective on Anglo-Indian and American writing. Rayaprol's verses, influenced by William Carlos Williams and resistant to Yvor Winters' formalism, break from established Indian literary traditions. For readers interested in postcolonial identity, modern poetry, and the complexities of cultural belonging, Angular Desire is a compelling rediscovery.
