As soon as possible we got out to see if Emma and family were alive. Passing many dead bodies." Filled with full-page half tone illustrations from photographs of the aftermath of the Miami hurricane of September 17 - 18, 1926. Laid-in is a printed leaflet with lyrics for a song titled "MIAMI" sung to the tune of "Floyd Collins." A one-page essay "The Mother of the World" by Stephen Cochran Singleton. Among the damaged sites photographically recorded: Miami's Bay Front and the McAllister Hotel with pleasure boats thrown up onto the boulevard; streets filled with flooded automobiles, the Meyer-Kiser Building, Hardies' Casino and the Furry Bath House, and several wrecked residences, boat houses and collapsed buildings. From the cover: "Views of the greatest catastrophe that has befallen any American Community. No City or State, since the San Francisco Earthquake has undergone the horrors or sadness which this West Indian Hurricane brought to the citizenry of Miami and Miami Beach. Hundreds were killed in this hurricane. Over 4000 injured and 15,000 families left homeless.".
