The recipient Eileen Cond ran an 18th-century royal hunting lodge converted to country house hotel at Deer Park, Honiton, Devon (hence her bookplate design) with a select clientele, and corresponding with Ian Fleming, Alistair Maclean, Dennis Wheatley and Len Deighton among others. Well-known as a prominent collector of thrillers, she was also the first secretary to the James Bond Fan Club. Later owned by Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert, with his pencil note added.
