Manuscript bound in contemporary black spring binder, original typed manuscript: "The Collected Verse of John Reed" edited with an Introduction by Leo Stoller. Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements or the degree of Master of Arts, Faculty of Philosophy, Columbia University. June, 1947. Stoller went on to a career as a professor of English and was considered a noted expert on Thoreau. Stoller died tragically at the age of 47 while a professor at Wayne State University. Stoller's subject for his Masters Thesis focused on the virtually unknown poems of John Reed; while Reed's writing on world affairs and political philosophy is well known, his poetry is not. Stoller's thesis is the original source material for the 1985 "Collected Poems" of John Reed, ed. Corliss Lamont: Lawrence Hill and Co. John Silas "Jack" Reed (October 22, 1887 Äì October 17, 1920) was an American journalist, poet, and socialist activist, best remembered for his first-hand account of the Bolshevik Revolution, Ten Days That Shook the World. Reed died in Russia in 1920 and is one of only three Americans buried in the Kremlin Wall Necropolis. The movie "Reds" is based on the life of John Reed.
